Much loved Derry republican to be laid to rest on Thursday

Well known Derry republican, Dale Moore, will be laid to rest on Thursday.

Mr. Moore had been unwell for a while and died aged 52 in Altnagelvin Hospital on Sunday evening.

The funeral will leave from Mr. Moore’s home, 69 Whitehouse Park for Requiem Mass in St. Columba’s Church, Longtower at 10p.m.

Mr. Moore’s remains will then be taken to the City Cemetery for burial.

Mr. Moore, (52), worked as a senior press officer for Sinn Fein and was a feature writer for An Phoblact.

In 1999 Mr. Moore was diagnosed sarcoidosis, a hardening on the lining of the lungs.

Mr. Moore underwent a lung transplant in 2007 in the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

Countless numbers of friends and family paid tribute to Mr. Moore on social media on Sunday evening.

Former Mayor of Derry and Strabane and local Sinn Fein councillor, Elisha McCallion said she was left “heartbroken” when she heard Mr. Moore had passed away.

“Dale will always be remembered as a dedicated Republican who gave his all for the cause of Irish freedom but, as well as a freedom fighter Dale was also a son, brother, friend and a gentleman,” said Colr. McCallion.

Mr. Moore is survived by parents, Baylon and Margaret and siblings Patricia, Ciaran, Orlaigh and Conan.
