One Muff man, living ‘Down Under’, certainly had the luck of the Irish when he was selected to cover last week’s St Patrick’s Day festivities in Dublin.
Cormac Lynch, who is currently living in St Kilda, was chosen to represent, and report on the events for, the Irish Echo and Emirates Airlines.
Mr Lynch said he entered the competition to win flights for himself and a friend so he could return home for his milestone 30th birthday - which was on St Patrick’s Day.
He said: “I entered because I turned 30 on Paddy’s Day and I thought ‘wouldn’t it be great to be back for it’.”
The civil engineer said he was in total shock when he got the call to say he’d won.
He said: “I was in work in the middle of a very boring and mundane task at the time so it was very hard to concentrate for the rest of the day.”
Mr Lynch said he was thrilled with the win because it gave him an opportunity to return home ahead of his wedding this June.
Mr Lynch who moved to Australia back in 2010, He and his fiance Jennifer travelled back for the occasion, which he said was filled with double joy as the pair had a niece and nephew to meet - who were both born at Christmas.
He said he hasn’t really suffered from home sickness but was in two minds what to do for his 30th birthday and this was the perfect opportunity to celebrate and catch up with friends and family in Ireland,
