Name of fisherman who drowned yesterday has not yet been released

The name of the man who tragically drowned whilst fishing yesterday in the River Mourne has not yet been officially released.

The man in his 60s, is believed to have suffered a heart attacck having travelled from Lurgan for a day’s fishing.

His body was discovered by another angler shortly before 6pm. A nurse who happened to be playing golf at the time was one of the first on the scene however the man had already passed away. It is believed he was a regular visitor to Strabane’s waters.

Robbie Bryson of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the death appeared to be accidental. He said seven units attended the scene.

The police and ambulance service were also in attendance.
