This Saturday, March 21 from 12 – 5pm, the Nerve Centre will be transformed into Gotham City for a special one-off celebration of the caped crusader, The Dark Knight.

The action-packed Batman Day – Kapow! will begin with a host of free Batman-themed activities for children and young people, including face painting, an interactive green screen that will take Bat-fans on a high-speed chase in the Batmobile, giveaways for best costume, as well as the chance to get your picture taken with Batman himself from 1-4pm!

The Gotham Arcade, hosted by Magee Core will feature a selection of the very best Batman video games for all ages, from Lego Batman to Arkham City and Injustice. There will also be a special Batman - Minecraft Time Build Challenge running every 30mins from 12pm, where the best build will win a £50 voucher! Slots can be pre-booked. There will also be a number of other Bat-themed tournaments with some fantastic prizes on offer.

Kids can also get great art tips about how to draw a new villain for Batman in the Gotham Villains Comic Art workshops, running at 1pm, 2.30pm and 4pm, with leading comic artist Phil Barrett or they might prefer to make their own Bat memento in the FabLab workshop at 12pm. Advance booking is required through nervecentre.org for all workshops which are priced at £3.

For older die-hard comic book fans, one of Ireland’s leading comic creators and artist on ‘Grayson’ for DC Comics, Stephen Mooney, will be doing a comic signing and taking part in a special panel discussing the ‘Greatest Batman Story Ever Told’, where the audience can join in to win a prize. There’s also a chance to sit in on afternoon screenings of documentaries tracing the history of Batman and animated films based on Frank Miller’s legendary graphic novels Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns.

The celebration will also be running in partner venue Brunswick Moviebowl with a morning screening of The Lego Movie (11.40am), and the entire Dark Knight trilogy running from 2.30pm until midnight.

The Icons: Batman event is supported by Film Hub NI, the Film Audience Network and Brunswick Moviebowl.
