New art gallery to open above city centre cafe next month

A new art gallery will open to the public in Derry next month.

The Warehouse Gallery, which will be opened officially on December 4 by the newly appointed President of the Royal Ulster Academy, Dr. Denise Ferran, will offer works by renowned artists such as Melita Denaro, Marty Kelly, Terry Coyle, Patrick Bradley, Brian Ferran and Marina Hamilton, as well as many more.

The gallery will be located above the Legenderry Warehouse No 1. cafe and bistro on Guildhall Street.

“This gallery is something the city desperately needs,” said curator, Anne Quigley.

“The gallery is another exciting development within the Warehouse brand, which aims to exhibit and sell works by some of the best known artists from this region as well as artists from across the globe.

“The North West is bursting with people full of creative and artistic drive and Warehouse Gallery will also be giving the best of these artists the opportunity to showcase their work and provide them with a launch-pad for their careers,” added Anne.

Speaking about the launch of the new Warehouse Gallery, Anne-Marie Hughes (Finalist Irish Ceramic Awards 2014 and Best in Ceramics Derry City Awards 2015) said it was a sign of exciting times ahead for the arts scene in Derry.

“This is an exciting and innovative opportunity for all art lovers in Derry. It brings life, engagement and contemporary views to the vibrant art scene that is emerging in the city.”
