New fund to help people access benefits

Derry community groups have been urged to apply for funding that could help reach people who are not receiving all the social security benefits they are entitled to.

As part of this year’s Benefit Uptake Programme, the Social Security Agency (SSA) is offering funding to community and voluntary organisations who can come up with innovative ideas to ensure local people are getting their entitlements.

Around £250,000 has been allocated to the Innovation Fund which will be provided for organisations to test new or enhanced approaches to improving the uptake of benefits.
