SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney has praised all those involved in helping secure an area of Derry badly effected by anti-social behaviour.
Colr. Tierney was speaking after gates were erected at the underpass at Madams Bank Road in Shantallow.
He said: “I know residents in this area will also welcome this move, which would not have been possible without the multi agency approach which was adapted from the outset- everyone around the table including local housing associations, community groups,PSNI,PCSP, Transport NI, local Councillors and most importantly the people affected, the local residents.”
Councillor Tierney added; “As in other areas, there are plans to involve young people and residents in worthwhile projects which, I hope, will build relationships between them and help them understand each other.
“Gates like these are not ideal but in order to help protect people’s property and tackle anti-social behaviour, residents in the local area felt they were essential and I was glad to assist them in this first step in reducing the levels of anti-social behaviour.
“Credit must also go to the local housing associations both Habinteg and Apex who did all in their power to support their tenants,” Colr. Tierney concluded.
