No new Altnagelvin COVID-19 admissions; midnight occupancy as low as early October; spare capacity double that of COVID-19 occupied beds

There have been no new admissions to Altnagelvin with COVID-19 and the midnight occupancy of coronavirus patients in Western Trust hospitals has fallen below 20 for the first time since early last October.

At midnight on Monday 19 people were being treated as coronavirus inpatients across all Western Trust hospitals.

It is the first time midnight occupancy has fallen below 20 since the start of last October.

Just two of 10 (20%) ICU beds at Altnagelvin were being used to treat COVID-19 patients; two (20%) were occupied by patients with other conditions and six (60%) were free.

Three ICU patients in total were being ventilated - one was a COVID-19 patient and two were non-COVID-19 patients.

In terms of general occupancy 2.39% of beds at Altnagelvin were ‘COVID-19 occupied’, 86.27% were ‘other occupied’ and there was 4.48 capacity left in the hospital system; 6.87% were ‘awaiting admission.’

There have been no further deaths.
