Nominations sought in Derry for disability awards

Derry people have been asked to put forward nominees for a number of prestigious awards ahead of a major prizegiving ceremony in Belfast in June.

Each year The William Keown Trust seeks nominations from family members and others who know an adult or child in the community, who has had to contend with and has achieved over a disability.

A spokesperson for the organisation said: “Nominations in the past have shown that many people with disabilities have progressed in their education and gone on to employment or given service to their community. At the Awards ceremony in June, Kate Smith the former anchor lady of UTV, will hand over the Awards.”

There are a number of categories including Children of Courage Award and Adult Achievers Award, The Haldane Butler Memorial Trophy, The Carer’s Award and others.
