Off duty police officers arrest man in Limavady

Two off duty police officers arrested a man in Limavady on Friday following an incident in the town centre in which police said a woman was knocked over and injured.

The 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and assault occasioning actual bodily harm after it is believed that he was involved in a theft from a shop in the Market Street area, just after 3pm, said a PSNI spokesperson.

“During the theft, a lady was knocked over and injured. She has been taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries that are not believed to be life threatening. The man currently remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries.”

Superintendent John Magill said: “The two off duty police officers happened to be nearby when this incident occurred. They followed the man until they made the arrest a short time later. I would like to commend them for their actions today and I feel that this is a perfect example of police officers continuing to keep people safe, whether they are on or off duty at the time.”
