Breast milk, an encrypted laptop and 1.25kgs of raw meat are among the items reported stolen or missing at Derry’s Altnagelvin Hospital since 2011.
A Freedom of Information request by the ‘Journal’ revealed there were 37 incidents of “proven, suspected or alleged” thefts from the Derry hospital.
The request further revealed 14 separate items were reported missing at Altnagelvin over the same timeframe.
Among the items reported stolen were cash - on 17 separate occasions - four handbags, a mobile phone, and encrypted laptop and a range of kitchen appliances including a fridge freezer, microwave, toaster and kettle. The Western Health and Social Care Trust also revealed 1.25kgs of raw meat were reported as stolen. As well as breast milk taken from a fridge, dentures, trolleys and a range of patient belongings were all reported missing over the last two years, as were painkillers and sleeping tablets.
