The chairperson of Ógra Shinn Féin in Derry is calling on the people of the city to show their support for people in Gaza by placing a candle and a short message in their window sills later tonight.

Mickey McCrossan, who visited Gaza two years ago, said he was disgusted at the current situation in the Middle East and that the people of Derry should show their solidarity with Palestinians by sending a direct message to Israel.

“We want as many people as possible to place candles and messages in their windows tonight. We then want them to take a picture of them and post them on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook between 10pm and 10.30pm.

“I’ve been to Gaza and I have seen first hand what the Israelis are doing out there. Hopefully a strong message from the people of this city can make a difference.”
