A student from North West Regional College has made it through to the final of RTE show Craft Master, earning him the chance to win a place in the prestigious Show Case, the international trade show for Irish producers along with a 1000 Euro prize.
Oliver Doherty, a HND Design (Textiles) student from the College’s Strand Road Campus spent two weaks with master weaver ‘Beth Moran’ who described him as a ‘weaving teacher’s dream’.
Along with two fellow apprentices he had to learn how to source his raw materials and take a product from design to completion.
“Being involved in the show was one of the best experiences I’ve had. It was a real learning curve, as I had never worked on weaving in this way before, and the challenges we were set really tested me to my limits. I was so pleased to be able to include the wool supplied by Donegal Yarn in my final piece, as I am keen to explore and support local producers in my designs and work.”
The final of the show will be broadcast in three weeks time.
