A one way pedestrian system looks set to be introduced to help calm congestion at Derry’s Peace Bridge, The Sunday Journal can reveal.
Local authorities said that the reason why they felt compelled to introduce the one way system was because they were inundated with complaints during the recent spell of good weather in the city.
A spokesperson said: “Hundreds of people, including tourists, contacted us to say that they found it difficult to make their way to the other side of the bridge when other pedestrians were crossing from the opposite side.
“It’s for this reason that we will be introducing a one way system at the Peace Bridge.”
The new system looks set to be in place as early as next week but at the time of going to press it was unclear what end of the bridge the new one way system will start and finish.
One local man who walked across the Peace Bridge yesterday said that he was horrified at the news and called on the authorities to change their mind.
