I was delighted to learn that Republic of Ireland manager, Giovanni Trapattoni has decided to keep faith in Creggan man James McClean for the upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and Austria.
McClean’s transfer from Premiership side, Sunderland to Championship newboys, Wigan Athletic clearly hasn’t affected the Italian’s views on the winger.
After impressing in his Wigan debut against Manchester United in the Community Shield at Wembley, McClean has yet to start in the Championship for the ‘Lactics’.
However, Trapattoni named McClean alongside former ‘Candy Stripes’ David Forde and Conor Sammon and in-form Killbegs man, Seamus Coleman in the 29 man provisional squad.
The squad will be shortened ahead of the fixture on September 6th in order to accommodate injuries etc. Therefore McClean will be hoping he can start having a greater impact at club level.
