Mr McCann final closure of Ilex yesterday represents the total failure of the “regeneration strategy” for Derry, supported by all the main parties.

Mr McCann said Ilex had involved for some “vast salaries and perks that ordinary workers could only dream about”.

“This set-up was defended by the entire Derry City Council,” he said. “If Ilex had delivered big-time, its excesses might have been tolerable. But the model was all wrong. The people were excluded while ‘experts’ and ‘consultants’ of one sort and another ran the show behind the scenes.”
