Passing of a local legend

The death has occurred of former Highland Radio presenter, Packie Bradley.

News of his passing was announced on Highland on Sunday evening by one of his former colleagues, Vincent Kelly.

Packie, from Buncrana, was for many years one of the most popular radio presenters in the north-west. But after two decades of entertaining listeners, Packie broadcast his last show on Highland Radio on December 21st, 2007.

His first programme on Highland was in the afternoon, but over time he was moved closer to midday, following the news. The move to an earlier time slot suited the Buncrana native, who enjoyed everything about the work except the drive home to Buncrana after dark.

“It was terrible at that time,” he said. “There were so many people walking on the dark roads that your heart was in your mouth going home.”

Packie recognised that his show had a strong listenership but said he “often wondered why.
