Young dancer Patrick Gill has described his first visit to the RTE studios as the “best thing ever” ahead of his appearance on the Late Late Toy Show tonight.
10-year-old Patrick - also known as ‘Paddy Popper’ due to his style of dance - will be the envy of children across the country when he appears on the most watched show on Irish TV tonight.
While Cockhill’s Patrick is ‘sworn to secrecy’ over what he will perform, he revealed he’s both “excited and a wee bit nervous” about appearing live in front of the nation. The All Ireland ‘popping’ champion was chosen from hundreds of hopefuls to appear on the iconic show after auditions were held in Co. Sligo. It will not be the first time he has appeared on television, as he recently made his own music video for ‘Pop Up Popstar’ on RTE’s show ‘Swipe TV.’ Patrick, the son of Denver and Jeanette Gill, revealed to the ‘Journal’ he was invited back to perform once again for Swipe TV’s special Christmas music video which was recorded this week. It will be shown on TV on December 18th at 4.30pm. Patrick began rehearsals for his toy show performance yesterday morning and said he has received great support from home. He is extra excited as Friday is also the birthday of his friend and aunt, as well as his brother Denver, who celebrates his 18th. Jeanette thanked the local community for their support, as well as Patrick’s dance teacher Clare McCarron of Elite Dance Academy who has been helping him rehearse in recent weeks. The Late Late Toy Show is on RTE 1 at 9.35pm.
