Six Good Friday lambs a '˜real turn up for the books'

Good Friday proved to be memorable for one Donemana family when a Romney ewe produced not one, two or even three lambs... but sextuplets.

This impressive sheep belongs to Andrew Shannon and his father who run a sheep farm near Donemana.

Andrew takes up the story: “On Good Friday a Romney ewe that had been scanned for four lambs started lambing. She lambed the first herself, and then dad took the remaining lambs from her. When we had four lambs lambed, he decided to check for more as they were all so small.

“We were then surprised to find another two lambs in her. They are very small, but lively and healthy - three male and three female. Dad says in all his years farming the most he ever had from one ewe was four so this was a real turn up for the books!”
