Snow on its way to NI as Yellow weather warning in operation

Department for Infrastructure engineers say they will continue to monitor the weather and road surface temperatures and will undertake additional salting of the scheduled network if required.
News of road gritters comes as the Met Office further reveals that first snow will fall this evening in Northern Ireland.

Hide AdA post on Twitter from the forecaster said: “A Yellow status weather warning from the Met Office came into operation at 4pm today.
“Rain and snow over parts of Northern Ireland - 1600 today to 1200 Tuesday”.
The latest weather warning advises that ‘heavy rain and snow may lead to tricky travel’.
It asks the public to expect - some roads may be affected by flooding, spray or snow, leading to longer journey times - flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible - train services possibly affected by flooding.

Hide AdAccording to the Met Office this evening and tonight will see rain ease off ‘before further persistent rain spreads from the southwest overnight’.
The forecasters add that there will be ‘some snow over the Sperrins and Antrim hills’.
And there will be ‘southeasterly winds, gales developing along the coast’.
Tomorrow will see widespread rain in the morning, “occasionally heavy with some hill snow in the north”.

Hide AdMeanwhile it will become drier from the southwest in the afternoon with a few showers.
And the outlook for Wednesday to Friday according to the Met Office is: “Unsettled on Wednesday and Thursday with rain and hill snow at times.
“Becoming mainly dry on Friday. Staying rather cold.”
