The PSNI said: "We are asking parents and guardians to ensure their children are not involved in the anti-community behaviour taking place in Creggan this afternoon.

"So far two petrol bombs have been thrown at police and there are some very young children present."

The police asked parents to keep their children at home for their safety.

"Neighbourhood officers are in the area to provide further reassurance to the community," the PSNI said.
