Around 100 Christmas trees are to be placed on the main routes into Derry later this year to make the festive period in the city “that little more special.”
Sinn Féin Councillor Elisha McCallion says plans to enhance the city’s Christmas decorations - agreed by the local authority’s Develiopment Committee - “will add to the excitement and buzz around the months of November and December.”
“There was great success and positive feedback last year on the overhead lights on Shipquay Street and surrounding areas .This is just another addition to it ,in the council’s efforts to make the city look the best it possibly can for Christmas.
“It will also hopefully encourage people to return for their Christmas shopping year on year by witnessing how much of a welcoming and festive place Derry city is,” she said.
The exact locations of the trees will be announced later.
