Waterside Sinn Féin councillor and former mayor of Derry, Lynn Fleming, is to step down from Derry City Council.

Colr. Fleming has been a member of Derry City Council for the last 16 years and served as mayor of the city in 2005-2006. She is stepping down from her role ahead of the major Council shake-up with the Review of Public Administration which will see Derry City Council merge with Strabane District Council.

Andrew McCartney, chairperson of Derry Sinn Féin, said; “Lynn will be taking up a new role within the party locally. We would like to thank her for her many years of service. As a councillor Lynn helped build the Sinn Féin support base in the Waterside.

Mr McCartney said Sinn Féin will now decide on who will replace Colr. Fleming. “An internal party selection process will now begin and once that is complete we will announce our replacement for co-option onto the Council.”
