Mayor calls for Council-led task force

The Mayor of Limavady is calling for a special Council-led task force to promote the town and deal with issues such as un-sightly buildings.

Sinn Fein councillor Sean McGlinchey said he has grown tired of hearing complaints about issues in the town and believes it is time for councillors to take action themselves and work with the community.

Colr. McGlinchey said a fantastic example of where the community pulled together was recently in Dungiven where tired and dilapidated buildings along the busy town’s Main Street were transformed.

“If you look at what happened in Dungiven it was remarkable. Those buildings along the Main Street look fantastic and that was a great example of the community and local politicians working together,” he said. “We need to do the same in Limavady. Instead of councillors complaining about this and that, we all need to come together and work with voluntary and government agencies and the schools. There are so many excellent agencies in Limavady and it’s time we all took responsibility and work together instead of sitting and complaining about it.”

Mayor McGlinchey paid tribute to the local council which he said does excellent work, through departments such as Technical Services, to promote the town and make it look its best.

The mayor said he would be calling for the creation of a task force, council driven, when members meet on Tuesday.
