Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has welcomed news that a new housing development earmarked for the Glen area of the city has moved a step closer.

The Housing Executive has confirmed that, next month, a process will begin to nominate a Housing Association to develop housing proposals for 53 new dwellings and community facilities on the site of the former Glen and Cedar Court flats complex.

Ms. McLaughlin said: “These plans offer a great opportunity to help the regeneration of this part of Rosemount and should also be used to help upgrade existing street lighting, footpaths and green spaces in the surrounding areas. It’s also very important that social clauses are included in any of the contracts for the building and associated work so as to give local people a chance of getting a job,” the MLA said.
