I would be grateful if you would allow me the opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the people of the Moor Ward for their support, time and best wishes on Thursday and in the months preceding it. Whilst I did not make it this time, I polled almost 1,000 votes at the end of a long count on Saturday, and was truly humbled watching each vote being counted, to see that the people had come out to give me their vote.

None of this would have been possible without my team, family and friends who since January had been out in all weathers night after night - I will never be able to repay them. I sincerely congratulate all of those elected – I don’t agree with everything that they stand for, but they have a mandate which must be respected. I hope they heard the people as I did, express concerns about youth unemployment, about mental health provision and about housing across our City. They have a lot to keep them busy.

My lingering memory will be that Nobel Laureate John Hume cast his vote for me on Thursday, a very proud moment. We all have many difficulties to face going forward but despite not having been elected, I will continue to put the people of this City first in all I do, and perhaps in future I can repay their confidence in me.

Thank you.
