Sinn Féin Councillor Brenda Chivers has welcomed the removal of tyres from a Halloween bonfire in Limavady.
Cllr. Chivers said “I have been contacted by concerned residents from a number of areas over these type of incidents over the years and I am glad to see some action taken.”
“While I welcome the removal of these tyres I must ask why the same action was not taken over tyres in 11th July bonfires earlier this year, this type of policing has led to some members of the community referring to this as political policing and is not good for confidence in the PSNI from the Nationalist community.”
“I call on the PSNI to do the same when tyres and other items such as my and my party colleagues election posters appear on loyalist bonfires in the lead up to July 12th 2015.”
She added “This is not about spoiling the fun for children but about keeping them safe and being responsible in our duty to protect the enviornment.”
