Prescription medicines being sold on streets
Local people have been warned of the dangers of failing to properly dispose of unused medicines.
Derry health chiefs have urged to take their out of date or unwanted medicines to their local community pharmacist so they can be destroyed properly.
Community organisations involved in a new Spring Clean your Medicine Cabinet drive include Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum, Caw/Nelson Drive Action Group, the Neighbourhood Health Improvement Projects North and West and the Waterside Neighbourhood Partnership.
Marie McLaughlin from the Neighbourhood Health Improvement Project (North West), said: “Some of the drugs found on the streets are prescription medications which have been sold or shared with others.
“Taking prescription drugs which have not been prescribed for you without advice from a health professional can lead to dangerous side effects and fatal consequences.”
