Lyndwood Homes Limited. trading as Ginnis Estates, has lodged an application to develop the hub, next to Lynch’s Eurospar in the burgeoning northern suburb.

Architects Ostick and Williams, in a design statement submitted by the developer, said: “The proposals will generate a new place that aims to meet the needs of the new community. The site is very well located in terms of adjacencies to existing services and as it is adjacent to and surrounded by large housing developments it will support a walkable neighbourhood concept. The proposals add to the established retail and commercial vitality of the areas, allowing a vibrant and enhanced commercial centre to prosper.”

The proposal is to service the growing local community of the Skeoge with a mix of Class A1 retail, Class A2 financial services, and Class D1 public service provision.

The site - north of the Skeoge Road and west of Glenabbey - is surrounded by over 1,120 homes and set to expand in the years ahead.

The application will be duly considered by Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Planning Committee.
