Public order up but thefts were down in 2015 in Inishowen

Public order and other '˜social code' offences, theft, and crimes categorised under '˜attempts/threats to murder, assaults, harrassments and related offences' were the most recorded in Inishowen in 2015.

The Central Statistics Office recently released recorded crime figures for the fourth quarter of 2015, giving an overall figure for all of last year.

The categories were deemed as followed: ‘attempts/threats to murder, assaults, harrassments and related offences (156); dangerous or negligent acts (87); kidnapping and related offences (2); robbery, extortion and hijacking (9); burglary and related offences (65); theft and related offences (162); fraud, deception and related offences (13); controlled drug offences (45); weapons and explosives offences (9); damage to property and to the environment (127); public order and other social code offences (230); offences against Government, justice procedures and organisation of crime (23).

Buncrana, Inishowen’s largest town recorded the highest figures for each offence, apart from kidnapping and related offences, of which there were two recorded in Moville.

Public order was the highest offence recorded in Buncrana, with 138, up 38 since 2014, followed by attempts to murder/assaults etc’ at 62 and theft at 59, down from 84 the previous year. Robbery and weapons offences were the lowest, with five each recorded.

The highest offence recorded in Burnfoot was theft, with 33, followed by public order at 14, ‘attempts to murder, assaults etc’ at 11, controlled drugs offences at 10, dangerous or negligent acts at nine, seven burglaries, six damage to property and two offences against Government, justice procedures and organisation of crime and fraud/deception. There were no recordings of kidnap, robbery or weapons offences.

Public order was also the highest in Carn, at 29, up from 22 in 2014, followed by 24 theft offences, 23 under damage to property etc. There was one robbery recorded and 12 burglaries, up one from 2014.

In Clonmany, public order was also the highest recorded offence at 25, followed by 13 categorised under the ‘attempts/threats to murder/ assaults, harrassments and related offences category.’ There were three recorded thefts, one controlled drugs offence and eight recorded under damage to property and environment, There were no offences recorded for kidnap, robbery, burglary or fraud.

In Moville, public order was again highest at 14. There were nine categorised under dangerous or negligent acts, up six from 2014 and three controlled drugs offences recorded. There was one robbery.

Theft was the most recorded in Muff, with 19, down six from 2014, followed by damage to property and environment at 13. There were five offences recorded under public order, down four from 2014,

In Newtowncunningham, damage to property was on top, with 20, followed by 19 ‘attempts/threats to murder/assaults etc.’ There were five public order offences. See www.cso.ie for a full list of recorded offences.
