Quay Market returning on Saturday for Maritime Fest
International traders are set to set up stall along Derry's quayside from this Saturday as the Foyle Maritime Festival kicks off.
Market Place, which runs the market, said they were “delighted to return to the Maiden City” with “a huge International Market” planned for the duration of the festival.
Coming hot on the heels of the Clipper fleet arrival, the market will be a key feature of the Maritime Festival and is expected to draw tens of thousands to the quayside over the eight day festival.
Market Place Operations Manager, Chris Hulley said he was excited to return to the Derry Festival, adding:
“This will be the third time Market Place has operated such a great Continental Market as part of the Derry Clipper Ships Festival.
“There is always such a great atmosphere at the event with so many families exploring and enjoying all the great entertainment and flavours on offer.”
Traders will be located on Queen’s Quay and will be offering a wide selection of products from across the globe, including a wide range of cuisine from hot smokey Paella cooked to an authentic Spanish family recipe to Bratwurst or Currywurst sausage cooked on the huge traditional German Schwenkgrill and traditional French crepes.
Tastes from closer to home include Snowdonia Cheese and Man of Aran Fudge offering over 20 different flavours of fudge, all homemade in Ireland, while the popular Dutch Pofitjes and the exotic meat burgers from Meats of the World will also be returning.
There will also be plenty of crafts and gifts to discover including hand knitted woollen clothing from Peru and hand made South American jewellery. And for the sailors there will of course be a range of nautical themed hats including pirate costumes and toys.
The Continental Markets will open daily from this Saturday (July 9) through to Friday (July 15) 12pm to 10pm.
Next Saturday (July 16) it will be open from 10am to 11pm and on Sunday July 17 from 10am to 6pm.
