Waterloo Road star Rebecca Ryan, daughter of well-known Derry Irish dancing champ Maranna Ryan (nee Clark), will take to the dance floor in front of an audience of millions tomorrow night as part of ‘Let’s Dance for Comic Relief’ on BBC1.
Derry viewers are urged to tune in and vote for 20-year-old Rebecca, who will be dancing alongside fellow Waterloo Road actor Philip Martin Brown, who plays Head of English Grantly Budgen in the hit BBC drama series.
Rebecca, who was baptised in Derry’s Pennyburn Chapel and whose family still live locally, is probably best known for her role as Debbie Gallagher in Channel 4’s Shameless.
As well as playing model student Vicki MacDonald in Waterloo Road, Rebecca has also appeared in hit shows like Emmerdale, Casualty and Holby City.
The show will be hosted by Alex Jones and Steve Jones. Celebrities and TV personalities taking part in the four-part contest for Comic Relief include decorating maestros Colin and Justin, comedian Ed Byrne and model Katie Price.
Two acts from the first three shows will go through to the final show - which will be broadcast on BBC One on March 12, the week before Red Nose Day Appeal.
Each week, the audience will vote for their favourites and the act with the most votes will have a guaranteed place in the final.
The judges will also have a chance to put an act through to the final by picking their favourite from the first two runners up.
“Let’s Dance for Comic Relief” will raise money through the audience votes, which cost 51p from a BT landline with 35.9p going to Comic Relief.
Tune in to Comic Relief tomorrow night at 7pm and vote for one of our own!
