Sinn Fein councillor Sean McGlinchey has spoken of his family’s shock following the sudden death of his nephew Declan McGlinchey, a son of former INLA leader Dominic McGlinchey.
Declan McGlinchey (39), a father-of-seven, died in the early hours of Monday at his home in Bellaghy from a suspected heart attack.
Sean McGlinchey said the entire family circle is “absolutely devastated”.
“It’s a terrible pity for his wife Brenda who is left with seven young children - the eldest 18 and the youngest two. It’s shocking and, when you look at what he went through at such a young age, burying his mother and father and then his sister who died young from illness. The family are devastated,” said Sean McGlinchey. “It’s a tragic loss.”
Declan’s father Dominic McGlinchey was a high profile member of INLA who was murdered in 1994.
His mother Mary was also murdered, being shot dead in 1987 as she bathed her two sons in their Dundalk home.
