Resurfacing scheme for Southway

Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard has announced the start of a £270,000 resurfacing scheme on the Southway in the Creggan area of Derry.

The resurfacing works, which will start on Monday 12 December and are scheduled for completion in mid-January 2017, will extend from the junction of the Circular Road to Lonemoor Road, a distance of 1,000m.

The Minister said: “These works will deliver significant improvements to the strength and road surface quality of this stretch of carriageway.

The benefits of the resurfacing scheme will help meet the needs of the local economy and improve transport connections for people, goods and services.”

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors one-way lane closures will operate at various times.

A full closure of the road will be required during the final week of the works.

A diversion route will be advised.

The works have been carefully programmed to minimise any inconvenience to the public. However, motorists should expect delays and additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.
