Roads blocked and homes left without power as Storm Ellen fells trees in Derry area

Dozens of homes have been hit with power cuts in the north west this morning as result of the heavy winds associated with Storm Ellen.

Fifty three customers are dealing with outages at Limavady (31), Donemana (12) and Sion Mills (10), according to Northern Ireland Electricity.

"The fault is due to severe weather conditions causing damage to the network," said the electricity distribution network operator in each of the cases.

Power cuts are more widespread in the Tyrone and Fermanagh areas.

There have also been a number of road closures due to the storm.

The Racecourse Road in Derry has been blocked due to a fallen tree, as has the Fyfin Road at Victoria Bridge outside Strabane.
