Limavady father and daughter, Frank and Stacy McGrotty, and Dungiven woman Colette Mullan, had their heads shaved at the weekend to raise money for Marie Curie. To date, well over £4,000 has been raised.

Stacy, a hairdresser at Monica’s hair salon in Dungiven, said: “I always wanted to shave my head, but I was a bit afraid. Then the idea of doing it for charity came to me and I thought ‘well, why not’?”

Stacy, 32, thanked Monica’s stylist, Colleen Millar for shaving their heads and everyone who made a donation.

“Hopefully, it helps,” added Stacy.

Frank, having lost a family member and close friends to cancer, said: “It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. It was very emotional on the night and people have been fantastic. No matter what house you went to, people donated, no problem.”

Mum-of-four Colette Mullan was “inspired to do something positive as well” when she heard what Stacy was doing. Colette, who has a close relative who is ill currently, was overwhelmed by the generosity of people who made a donation and praised them for their kindness.

Frank added: “It worked out very well, and we want to thank everyone in Limavady and Dungiven. Thank you very much!”

Sheena Havlin, Marie Curie fundraiser said: “Our Nurses work night and day in people’s homes providing hands on care and vital emotional support. We’re here for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. We offer expert care, guidance and support to help them get the most from the time they have left. This work is made possible locally, thanks to individuals like Stacey, Frank and Colette.

“Thank you to all who supported the head shave in any way.”
