Runaway truck wrecks car and crashes into Foyleside Shopping Centre

Police want to speak to three youths after a runaway articulated lorry wrecked a car, street signs and bollards before crashing into the side of Foyleside Shopping Centre in the early hours of Sunday, September 11.

The PSNI said that at around 4.45am on Sunday the articulated lorry was being unloaded in Ferryquay Street when it rolled away.

The lorry travelled along Newmarket Street before crashing into the wall of the Foyleside Shopping Centre on Orchard Street.

Damage was caused to a parked car and significant damage caused to a number of street signs and bollards during the incident.

An investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances of the collision and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact officers in Strand Road. Police are particularly keen to speak with three young males who were in the area of Ferryquay Street around the time of the incident. Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 quoting reference number 368 of 11/09/16.
