Tributes have been paid to the Derry pensioner at the centre of a campaign to win a new bus for the Foyle Hospice, who passed away at the weekend.
Ninety-five years-old Renee who had been married to Derry City footballer, the late Hugh Kelly was buried on Sunday. Before she passed away Renee put her heart and soul into helping the Foyle Hospice win a mini bus from the Aviva community fund.
Renee, who was adored by the staff at the daycare unit, cherished the mornings and afternoons she spent in the Foyle Hospice. Just weeks before her death Renee asked the people of Derry to get behind an online voting campaign to secure £25,000 for the new bus.
“The bus is needed in the community as it serves all class and cultures,” said Renee. “The bus is vital to me as I come to pampering day. Going to the hospice is great because I get to meet so many other people with health problems. The nurses are so good and look after us so well.
“It is just lovely to be able to look out at the wonderful gardens.”
Renee was the mother of Hugh, Samuel, Lyndon and the late Gerald and Maurice.
