Sainsburys store in Derry was evacuated for a time this morning due to a fire.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service have now confirmed that the fire broke out at a deep fat frier in the premises.

Several fire brigade vehicles were seen arriving at the building, which is shared with First Trust Bank, at around 8.15am.

Staff meanwhile were evacuated and assembled in the car park as the premises was checked.

A spokesman for the Fire Brigade said the fire was extinguished before they arrived.

The Fire Brigade left the scene shortly afterwards and it is understood the store has now reopened as normal.
