Santa Claus and his reindeers sleighing their way to Foyleside

With Santa Claus set to touch down at Foyleside for the official opening of his magical Christmas grotto this Saturday, his host, Fergal Rafferty, the boss of the local shopping centre, is reminding all the good girls and boys that they've a chance to win a festive breakfast with the man himself as part of a special competition this year.

The lucky winners meet Santa for the breakfast, which will be served by Mrs Claus, before joining an ‘Elf Yourself’ party with the elves, who will be taking a well-deserved break from making Christmas toys to attend.

The competition opens as soon as the magical grotto is unveiled at 11am this Saturday, November 12, and entries can be placed at the Customer Services desk in Foyleside.

Santa, of course, will be arriving to open the much-loved feature, bringing with him his stylish sleigh, furry reindeer friends, and of course – Mrs Claus as well.

Children of all ages are invited to give him a big welcome back to the centre and share with him what they’d like for Christmas.

The centre manager said the winners of the breakfast prize can also look forward to Santa drawing a cartoon version of them.

Mr Rafferty, said: “As a special treat this year, Santa will not only draw a personal caricature of the winning children, but they will also dress up as elves at a special ‘Elf Yourself’ dance party.

“The competition is open to anyone aged between 3-10 and this year and really is an unforgettable experience.”

The centre manager went on to explain that Christmas shoppers have a greater choice than ever this year, with three new tenants further enhancing the retail offering at Foyleside.

“In addition to the arrival of Santa we have three new store openings, Swarovski, Uberfone and Card Factory to add to our long list of fantastic retailers, meaning there are more shopping options than ever before at Foyleside,” he said.

“With our fantastic festive lighting throughout the Centre, convenient parking facilities and late night opening hours we hope to make each visit a memorable Christmas experience,” he added.

Santa won’t be the only familiar face in Foyleside on Saturday afternoon, however. Children will also be delighted by the appearance of the cast of the Millennium Forum’s pantomime, Cinderella. Come and meet Cinderella herself, the Fairy Godmother, and the Ugly Sisters as they join Santa in Foyleside, and give you a taste of what is in store from this year’s pantomime.
