As children all around the city and are finishing their lists for Santa this year, a special post box has been set up in Guildhall Square that will deliver letters directly to the North Pole.
Mayor Cllr Brenda Stevenson said: “Santa’s Postbox is a popular Christmas tradition which is very exciting for all children as they carefully make out their lists for Santa. We recently met Santa who came to Derry to switch on the Christmas lights. He told me how he loves to hear from all the children of Derry as they are all so good and never ask for too much, leaving plenty of room in the Christmas stocking for extra little surprises. He also spoke about how lovely the letters are and so nicely written and that it is very important to him to sit down with a cup of hot cocoa as he carefully reads and responds to everyone who writes to him. He is looking forward to making his trip this year as children have been extra good, and not to forget to be in bed early Christmas Eve.”
Santa’s Post Box is located beside the main Christmas Tree in Guildhall Square is now open and parents are reminded that children should post their letter no later than the 18th December to be sure to receive a response from Santa.
This announcement comes amidst the opening of the city’s Christmas Market in Ebrington Square, running until December 21st. For more details of what is happening in the city this festive season click on www.festivetime.com
