Seagate in Derry '˜not affected' by new job cuts
Seagate's Derry operation will not be affected by newly announced staff cuts, the company has now confirmed.
The company this afternoon clarified their position this afternoon following an announcement by the company that is set to shed 6,500 staff across its global operation over the next year, which equates to 14% of its entire workforce.
There had been fears that Derry could be hit with more job losses after the company said that the restructuring plans would involve its operations across Europe, America, Africa, the Middle East.
A spokeswoman told the Journal this afternoon: “I can now confirm that Seagate Springtown will not be affected by this phase of restructuring.”
The confirmation is expected to come as a relief to the company’s employees locally.
Seagate is Derry’s largest employer, with over 1,000 people working at its Springtown base.
In May, company bosses announced that around 70 jobs were being made redundant at the Derry plant.
