A Derry councillor has spoken of his shock at the number of people seeking temporary accommodation in the city.

Sinn Fein’s Tony Hassan says an urgent review of the the provision of temporary accommodation is needed after it was revealed that nearly 350 people are in temporary accommodation in Derry with 150 people currently on the waiting list.

“The lack of social housing and the need for houses in this city is staggering.

“This situation cannot be allowed to continue. If there are no social homes for families on the waiting lists then the Housing Executive must provide temporary accommodation and at the moment they are failing people in this city,” he says.
