Sister of Fred and Rose West victim to speak in Derry

The sister of a woman who was murdered by serial killers Fred and Rose West will speak in Derry next month.

Marian Partington will speak as part of the Little Way Novena.

Her sister Lucy disappeared in 1973 and her body was recovered in 1994. On Tuesday May 10, Marian will speak how her journey towards forgiveness only began after feeling her own “murderous rage”.

The Little Way Novena will begin on Saturday (7th May) at 7.30 pm Mass with the Sacrament of the Sick. On Sunday evening (8th May) at 6.00 pm during a time of prayer and devotions Bishop Donal McKeown will speak.

Monday to Friday (9th - 13th May) there will be Novena Masses at 6.30 am and 10.00 am. Each evening there will be Evening Prayer with a Guest Speaker. The Relic of St Thérèse will be available for veneration. Confessions will be available Monday to Friday after the 6.30 am Mass and after the 7.30 pm Evening Service.

The Guest Speaker on Monday (9th May) is Mickey Harte. Mickey is the current – and most successful Gaelic football manager of the Tyrone senior inter-county team. He is an inspirational leader. In today’s secular world Mickey speaks regularly about his Catholic faith and the importance of faith in his daily life.

Manoj Raithatha will speak on Wednesday (11th May). Interested in business at a young age, money became a ‘real-life magnet’ in Manoj’s life. It seemed that Manoj had it all. Through difficult personal circumstances he discovered new riches in life – the true value of his faith and his family (he was raised a Hindu and became a Christian in 2008).

The Guest Speaker on Thursday (12th May) is Margaret Mizen. Margaret and her husband Barry lost their son Jimmy, a day after he turned 16, when he was murdered in a bakery a short distance from his home. The Mizen’s visit prisons and schools, speaking to children and young people about the importance of peace through Jimmy’s story.

Archdeacon Robert Miller will speak on Friday (13th May). Archdeacon Miller is the rector of Christ Church, Infirmary Road. Over the years St Eugene’s and Christ Church have worked closely together in proclaiming the Christian message.
