Six babies - two boys and four girls - made the start of 2011 extra special for their mums and dads as they arrived on New Year’s Day at Altnagelvin Hospital.
The first baby born in the Western Trust’s Altnagelvin Hospital was delivered at 03.51am.
The baby boy, who weighed 6lbs and 7oz is from the Waterside area of the city.
He was followed by another boy, Jacob Edwin Carey from Derry who weighed 6lbs and 10oz and was born at 5.06am to mum Michelle.
Four baby girls followed including baby Cliodhna Kennedy who weighed in at 6lbs 3oz, a first baby to Paul and Antoinette Kennedy and baby Chloe, daughter of Siobhan Nicholl and Ethan Whitman from Eglinton who weighed in at 5lbs and 3oz.
Also born was a baby girl to Nicole Millar and Owen Morrison, who was weighed in at 8lbs 14oz.
The first baby born in Northern Ireland in 2011 was a baby girl, Maurica Courtney, who was born at the Royal Maternity Hospital in Belfast at 12 minutes past midnight.
