With Derry’s huge Return of Colmcille pageant just days away, a unique musical event called ‘Songs of the Scribe’ will bring music to the atmospheric and intimate setting of St Augustine’s Church next Wednesday, June 5, at 8pm.
St Augustine’s Church will welcome the Seamus Heaney Centre’s singer-in-residence, Padraigin Ní Uallacháin, to recreate the beauty, simplicity and love of the natural world of the ancient Irish monastery with lyrics attributed to Columcille and other scribes.
Pádraigín will sing in original old Irish with translations by Seamus Heaney. Accompanying her will be virtuoso fiddle player Dónal O’Connor and Macdara Ó Graham, on viola d’amore and drones.
Tickets £10 from the Forum Box Office and at: www.millenniumforum.co.uk.
