The cultural and community sector are coming together on Wednesday at the Playhouse to discuss the sustainability of audiences in the North West as part of Creativity Month.
The full day session will be exploring practical ways to help arts, culture and community organisations increase and engage their audiences and look at new ways of finding new ones. As public funding becomes more competitive organisations need to maximise their audiences and create programmes that audiences want to see.
Minister Carál Ní Chuilín said: “Creativity involves the generation of new ideas or more effective ways to address problems. The creative and cultural sectors can act as a catalyst to tackling challenges in the economy, education, health and the environment. They have a key role in helping to promote equality and tackle poverty and social exclusion.”
Niall Mc Caughan, Chief Executive of The Playhouse stated: “Derry, which was the UK’s first City of Culture in 2013, and continues to be a City of Culture, has shown not only how to engage new audiences, but is an excellent example of the positive knock-on effect this has had as a key economic driver, and increased pride in our city. In order to survive in these challenging times, arts organisations need to engage in a creative way with the public in order to grow these audiences.”
‘Getting and Growing Audiences in the North West-an ideas and insights session’ will be opened by Caral ni Chuilin, Minister for the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure. The agenda includes practical workshops on dynamic pricing, Test Drive the Arts NI and creating an audience development plan and all arts, cultural and community organisations are welcome.
