The Derry Journal has teamed up with Specsavers, 7 Ferryquay Street, Derry, to search for budding young artists!

To celebrate Easter we are encouraging our young readers to colour in the Easter Bunny picture on page 18 of today’s print edition.

Specsavers and the Derry Journal will be looking out for the most eye-catching entries from all age ranges, with the final picture running in the paper on 3 April.

One lucky winner will receive an Easter hamper, including a £125 Specsavers voucher and a complimentary eye test.

Sean McCauley, store director and optometrist at Specsavers, 7 Ferryquay Street, Derry, says: ‘We are looking forward to seeing children use colour and imagination in the competition.

‘We would urge parents to keep a close eye on their children’s eyesight and recommend that children have their first eye examination at around three years old or as soon as they can match pictures or point at things.

“The earlier many common childhood vision problems are discovered the better the chance of correcting them.’

“Good eyesight is one of the most important tools for a child’s learning and if it is not in perfect condition, problems can often be mistaken for learning difficulties in young children.

“Around 80% of everything a child learns is through their vision, so even a minor problem with a child’s sight can mean they suffer huge setbacks in their development at school.
