St John Ambulance are to open a new headquarters and training hub in Derry.

The St John Hall at Springtown Industrial Estate will be used as a training hub for adult volunteers, cadets and badgers in counties Derry, Tyrone and Fermanagh.

Chairman of St John’s CT Hogg said the new headquarters will “provide a training hub for the units throughout the west of the province, supporting the essential services provided by the volunteers to the public.

“St John Ambulance has 900 adult volunteers and 500 young volunteers throughout the province. These premises will ensure that the charity is fit for purpose in the west and continues to render much public benefit,” he said.

The new headquarters will also serve as the base for the two accident and emergency ambulances.

Sir William Hall, the ceremonial head of the St John organisation in the north will officially open the headquarters on September 8
