The new-look Ebrington Square is to be officially opened on St Valentine’s Night.

Ilex, Derry’s urban regeneration company, is urging the public to ‘make it a date’ to attend the historic event.

Caoimhín Corrigan, Ilex’s Cultural Broker explained: “The opening of Ebrington Square is a further significant milestone for Ilex following the success of the Peace Bridge. More importantly, it is a major celebration for everyone to take ownership of what will be our largest urban space. With Derry~Londonderry at the heart of what we do, and building on the brilliant City of Culture campaign, we are again gathering the public’s ideas as to what they love about their city. Some of these contributions may feature on the night itself.”

Mr Corrigan revealed that the Ilex team will also place a time capsule in Ebrington Square.

“Items should give an idea of city life in 2012, the events that shaped us and our hopes for the future.”
